HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS

Each year in the fall, thousands of people gather for the inspiration that is Council Tree Pow Wow. This Native American cultural arts festival is part of an ancient tradition. Since time unknown, the Ute Indian tribes have met here for their annual council meetings. This festival is not a re-enactment of those meetings, this festival is the continuation of those council meetings. The branches of this tribe will meet for dance, drumming and other contests and exhibitions. Be here in late September and feel the power that is Pow Wow.

Ranching and agriculture have long played a part in Delta County since the first pioneers arrived in the late 1800s. The Pioneer Town Museum in Cedaredge is dedicated to the spirit these people brought with them. The county was primarily settled by a German populace, many English, Irish and Mexican people brought their roots from the homeland here to settle in Delta County.

You wouldn't be paying attention if you didn't notice the artistic influence in this up-and-coming art mecca. Artists of all disciplines find inspiration here and art collectors find a lot to collect.

Music is the soul of a community and here the soul is rich. Musicians here study and perform not only traditional forms of music, but enjoy presenting sounds from around the world and throughout time. Celtic flute, African drumming, classical and bluegrass are but a few of the sounds to be heard on the hillsides of these communities. Residents here play anything from handbells to harp or appreciate and support the beautiful music that is the soul of our side of the divide.
