ROADSIDE
PRODUCE STANDS / FARMERS MARKETS
Once
the pioneers settled in Delta County, farming became a way of life in
the area. The abundance of water on the Grand Mesa and higher mountain
ranges made irrigation easier for the newcomers.
Here
in these high
desert plains corn, beans, onions, sugar beets and more row crops are
raised. Even now the variety of crops demonstrates the farmers ability to
coax the earth into yielding some of the finest flavors from the
harvest.

Many
growers in the area are organic producers providing
nutritional
varieties of produce and legumes. A trip to one
of
the roadside stands of Delta County will be a treat. You
will
be reminded of what a tomato should taste like and
enjoy
the juice dripping down your chin. Napkins are provided.
Tips
on canning and preserving your treasures can be found
at
most of the stands, along with tasty recipes.
The
summer is alive with flavor as the Main Street Market, in Delta, begins
July 21st and goes thru September 1st, every Wednesday from 4 - 8 PM.
Visit this farmers market setting on Main Street and taste some of the
local freshness. Quality handcrafted items will also be available.
Sample
